Penang Butterfly Farm in Teluk Bahang will become “Entopia” when it completes its RM50 million metamorphosis next year.
The world’s first live butterfly and insect sanctuary closed in March for redevelopment and rebranding.
Its chief executive officer Joseph Goh said Entopia, from the combination of the words “entomology” and “utopia”, was more than just a new name and logo.
“Entopia is a place designed to inspire visitors to experience and understand nature in a new way. It is a commitment to help people understand nature from a different perspective.
“It is also a movement to live in harmony with nature, and a rallying call for Penangites and the world to get involved in this worthy cause,” he said.
The new logo was unveiled today at the Hin Bus Depot in George Town at the event called “A Brand New Day”.
The event also witnessed the launch of the Entopia website and social media channels.
Entopia is expected to open in the first quarter of next year. It will house a butterfly and dragonfly sanctuary, indoor invertebrates discovery centre, food and beverage outlets and more, with indoor and outdoor parks.
Goh said the redevelopment would expand the size of the park to 9,300sq m.
“There will be a lot of park area to cover compared with previously.
“We are going to be one of the largest butterfly sanctuaries in the world,” he said, adding that it would also educate the people about insects, their habitat, and the importance of preserving nature. – August 5, 2015.
